Mudgee Show + Rodeo this weekend!

Roll up! Roll up! One of the region’s most iconic events is on this weekend – the annual Mudgee Show and Rodeo.

The Mudgee Show puts our region on exhibition, promoting our region’s fine produce as well as the talent of our local craftspeople, and the expertise of local animal husbandry.

This year’s jam-packed two-day event will feature everyone’s show favourites with popular rides and sideshows, reptile displays, juggling, a lumberjack show, and a busy program of ring events and colourful pavilion displays.

The rodeo will also be back for another year, after making a return to the show last year, and there will be some great prizes up for grabs including: the $1200 Iverach Volkswagen Open Bull Ride, the $1000 Bronco Ute Trays Saddle Bronc, the $1000 Tyre Man Mudgee Bareback, and the $1000 Moolarben Coal Ladies Barrel Race.

The Mudgee Show has been running since all the way back in 1846. Though there have been some few changes to the show over the years, it still remains a crowd favourite, with thousands of people heading to the show every year.

Hands up if you’re planning on going to this year’s Mudgee Show?

The Mudgee Show is one of our region’s most beloved and iconic events, having started all the way back to 1846. Though there have probably been quite a few changes to the show over the years, it still remains a crowd favourite, with something for everyone to enjoy.

Some of this year’s show highlights will include the Mudgee Rodeo, a lumberjack show and a quickshear competition.

Of course all of your show favourites will be there too such as rides, sideshow attractions, livestock sections, commercial exhibitors, showbag stalls, fireworks, the Mudgee Showgirl competition and much more.

The Mudgee Show is an important event on the local calendar and we strongly encourage everyone in the community to head along and celebrate all of the wonderful and unique aspects of our country lifestyle.

This year’s show will take place on Friday 4 March and Saturday 5 March at the Mudgee Showground, with the rodeo to be held on Friday 4 March from 5pm.

The Gulgong Show will be the first cab off the rank, with the Gulgong Show Society planning some spectacular activities to mark the 128th event on February 20.

The show will have plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Some of the highlights this year will include rides, horse events, children’s entertainers, circus acts, fireworks and the 2016 Gulgong Show Girl.

There will also be plenty on display, such as wool from sheep and goats, poultry sections, fruit and vegetables, art and craft, floral displays and a big bake off.

The Gulgong Show is an important event on the Mudgee calendar and we encourage everyone in the local community to show your support for this fantastic event that celebrates all of the wonderful aspects of our country lifestyle.

The event helps showcase our region and promote our local produce and the varying talents of our local craftspeople.

Mudgee’s Masterchefs!

We’re so proud to be part of a community that produces some of the best fresh food and wine in the country, now we can add to that the fact that we have some esteemed home cooks that have put Mudgee on the map yet again!
You may have read in the Mudgee Guardian on Monday that several residents of the Mudgee region have had their recipes published in The Country Show Cookbook: Home Cooking. Pitted against other show contestants, the competition would no doubt have been incredibly tough.
We would like to say a huge “congratulations” to Shirley Tunnicliff of Rylstone, Carolyn Cannon of Glen Alice and of course Carolyn Emeny of Mudgee who between them have 6 recipes published in the cookbook.
According to the Guardian article “The Country Show Cookbook: Home Cooking” cookbook was released at the Dubbo Show and copied are available here in Mudgee by contacting Carolyn on 6379 7718 or emailing info@wheelygood.com.au.
Proceeds from the sales of these cookbooks go to fundraising efforts for the show societies throughout New South Wales.
If you’re looking for some great home cooking recipes, you can’t go past something that’s been produced by locals! So for everything from hot winter soups to baked goods and barbecues, make sure you contact Carolyn for your copy today!

More about the Mudgee Showgirl Competition

As we promised earlier this week, we’d like to delve deeper into what the Mudgee Showgirl Competition is all about. For those that have been following our blog for the last year, you’ll know that we wrote about it a couple of times. We didn’t however go into detail about what is actually involved with the Mudgee Showgirl Competition.

Who will be Miss Showgirl 2011?

The Show may not be until March, but beyond the mud of the animal stalls and the fairy floss there’s the serious (and seriously fun) business of crowning Miss Showgirl.
We mentioned back in July what a great experience this can be for young women in our community aged 18-25, and the business of deciding the lucky winner is well and truly underway, with the final ball set for November 13.
If you’ve never been before, or if you’re wondering what to expect this year, then get excited! Live music, dancing, light refreshments and of course – the sashing of Miss Showgirl 2011 are all part of what we’re sure will be a fun and friendly night.
If you’re interested in tickets, the ball is being run by Miss Showgirl 2010 Madeleine Hamilton. You can contact her and find out more via the event facebook page, or drop her an email.
We’re excited about heading out to Parklands Resort next weekend for the event and will be dressed for the occasion; will you be glamming it up for Miss Showgirl?
