Friday Feast – Café 89

Café 89

We visited on 07-10-16

Man down, man down!! We were missing one of the troops today, however we still headed out for the Friday Feast. Café 89 was our place of choice today, and it did not disappoint. The place was buzzing with patrons choosing to either sit indoors or enjoy the sun-drenched footpath dining. Jo and her team provide a wonderful selection of hearty meals catering for breakfast (all day) and lunch. Two of us chose the steak sandwich with roasted mushroom, Swiss cheese and caramelised onions, whilst our counterpart savoured the 89 chicken burger with honey mustard mayo, all served with chips. Other options include corn fritter stack, Spanish baked eggs and the 89 beef burger. The all day breakfast menu is extensive with choices of eggs Benedict, smoked salmon omelette, a healthy breakkie stack or the big breakfast.

Momenti coffee is a huge hit with caffeine aficionados, whilst other drink choices include Tea Tonic – Australia’s Healthiest Tea Range, milkshakes or freshly squeezed juices.

Café 89 (supporting Pink Up Mudgee) has something for everyone whether it’s breakfast, lunch or morning & afternoon tea. Come down and see why this café is so popular.

Cheers,

Sutho

Friday Feast – Paragon Hotel

Paragon Hotel

We visited on 09-12-16

Just for a change the team headed for a counter meal at the Paragon Hotel for the Friday Feast. Unfortunately it was only 1pm on Friday so we could not enjoy a frost amber ale, however an icy cold squash and a quality pub meal did the job. Paul Osseweyer provides a great meal and that is evident by the amount of tradies in there during lunch hours.

Roast pork & veges, schnitzel & chips, beef burger or lamb cutlets, whatever your appetite, it will be satisfied here at The Paragon Hotel. Even if you’re not hungry, call in for a beer and a chat!

Cheers till next time,

Sutho

Friday Feast – Wineglass Bar & Grill

Wineglass Bar & Grill

We visited on 20-09-16

Friday Feast – The team headed to The Wineglass Bar & Grill to savour the delicious menu. Owner and Chef Scott Tracey provides many options that will appeal to all appetites. Select from the $11 lunch specials which include steak sandwich, an Italian pizza with prawns or a fresh Caesar salad. Or for those that want something a little more upmarket, try the chicken risotto, the seafood linguine or the slow roasted pork belly.

If lunch is not for you, why not start the day with a sumptuous breakfast. Choose from hot cakes with honeycomb butter, Belgian waffles with chocolate sauce or something for the health conscious, granola, dried fruit and yoghurt. All of this can be washed down with award-winning Vittoria Coffee.

If a 3 course meal is more your style, come and try the dinner menu which changes seasonally and is prepared using regionally sourced produce. Match this with a selection of local wines for an unforgettable meal.

If you want to make a weekend of it, stay at the Cobb & Co Court Boutique Hotel, Mudgee. Relax in a beautifully appointed queen room or a New York style loft apartment, centrally located and adjoining The Wineglass.

Why not take an opportunity to enjoy all our gorgeous region has to offer? We’re so busy we often forget to appreciate this amazing place we live.

Now, any suggestions for our lunch date next week?

Cheers,

Sutho

Friday Feast – Outside The Square

Outside The Square

We visited on 18-11-16

The team headed down to Outside the Square Café to enjoy the spring day. The cafe offers great options for breakfast and lunch in a great family friendly environment. The small servery window for take away coffee is a hive of activity in the morning and the aroma of fresh baked muffins and cakes is hard to pass by.

The breakfast menu is very simple yet delicious with choices including French toast, buttermilk pancakes, toasted muesli, or Eggs Benedict, Eggs Florentine or Eggs Ocean (smoked salmon). For the big appetite tuck into The BIG Square with eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms, potato rösti served with tomato relish. Accompany this with a Toby’s Estate Coffee or Toby’s Estate Organic tea to complete your morning.

If lunch is what you are after, then again the menu will satisfy your taste buds. The chicken burger seemed to be the popular choice on Friday, however the Cajun chicken Caesar salad was a personal favourite. Other lunch time options include a gourmet steak sandwich, the Greek lamb burger, various salads and choices of baguettes and bruschetta’s. To replenish the fluids on a warm day, select from milkshakes, smoothies, organic soft drinks and juices. Kids are not forgotten either with a number of options for the little appetite.

The focus of the owners and staff here at Outside The Square Café is to provide a family friendly place that serves coffee produced by ethical companies and also organic and natural options. Come in and meet the staff and see why everyone is starting to look Outside The Square Café.

Cheers,

Sutho

Help shape Mudgee’s future

Mid-Western council residents currently have the chance to have their say on the projects they would like to see prioritised in the region.

The council considers new infrastructure and service delivery projects as part of their budgeting process each year and are currently asking people to provide submissions for consideration.

All submissions will be evaluated and reviewed by council and will help them create the Draft 2017/18 Operational Plan, with the Final Operational Plan set to be adopted in June this year.

People are invited to send their suggestions and comments via the Mid-Western Council website before March 31 2017.

We strongly recommended that everyone head over to the council website to have a say and help shape the future of the Mudgee region. By having a say you can help influence the future development of the region and help ensure the projects you care about get off the ground.

The Draft Operational Plan will be released in April this year and the community will get a chance to have a say again before the Final Plan is adopted.

Contact the Mid-Western Regional Council for any further details.

The 2012 Mudgee Running Festival

mudgee running festivalIn a couple of weeks, the Mudgee community will be putting their running shoes on in preparation for the annual Mudgee Running Festival.

The festival will be taking place on the weekend of August 18 & 19 and it’s open for everyone from first-time runners to experienced marathoners.

You don’t need to be competitive to take part in the Mudgee Running Festival, it’s worth running in the event just to be able to enjoy the course itself, which will travel through the Mudgee Valley, offering picturesque views of vineyards, farmland and friendly volunteers cheering all the runners on.

As well as the running, the festival will also feature a jumping castle for the kids, merchandise tents, food and drinks and a free BBQ lunch for all runners.

There will be a 5km and 10km event taking place on the Saturday of the festival and a half and full marathon will be taking place on the Sunday. All of the races will commence from Lawson Park.

You can register online to take part in the event, simply head to mudgeetriclub.hwy.com.au for full details.

The Mudgee Running Festival should be a heap of fun for everyone who takes part – so who’s planning on racing this year?

Mudgee’s Newest Store – Target Country

Well it’s been 10 months since we first posted about the upgraded Country Target store that would be coming to Mudgee, and now the day has arrived that we locals will get to experience the store in all its opening glory!

The official opening of Mudgee Target Country is tomorrow (Thursday 31st of May), and from 8am the store is holding  a day of excitement, specials and of course entertainment for the kids to celebrate its first day of trading, and all local Mudgee residents are invited to attend.

Department stores play a vital role in helping maintain the local economy, and it’s hoped that providing a bigger range of products, shoppers will be inclined to buy locally rather than when they’re visiting Sydney or even online which is becoming more and more popular due to convenience, price and range of goods.

We’ll be excited to see the buzz around Church Street tomorrow and throughout the rest of the week. We’re sure that most shoppers will be attending the store at least to check it out, if not to buy up big.

It’s Gotta Be Mudgee!

We know how awesome Mudgee is, and food and wine lovers of Sydney will this week be privy to just how great our region is when the Mudgee region is put on show at the Pyrmont Festival of Wine, Food and Art between today and the 27th of May 2012.

This Sunday’s free outdoor Wine and Food fair is set to be a hit with locals, being held at Pirrama Park, with wine tasting, fine food and produce stands and plenty to tantalise just about any palette, and of course Mudgee will be at the centre of it all!

Other events taking place as part of the festival include dinners, cheese master classes, long lunches, tours and art exhibitions, all revolving around the great products that come out of our very own country town. If you know of people in Sydney that are keen wine connoisseurs, love great food, or who appreciate art, then please share this post with them.

Hats off to the Mudgee Wine Region industry for collaborating with the Pyrmont Ultimo Chamber of Commerce and the City of Sydney to put on the event, which is aimed at introducing a little bit of country and showcase the origins of great food, wine and art to city folk and hopefully boosting tourism in the Mudgee region.

Girl Talk in Mudgee

Are you a female living or moving to Mudgee? Are you looking for ways to network and interact with other local ladies, to get to know women in the Mudgee community and above all, get out and see just how great Mudgee is with like-minded, motivated women?

A new initiative that we’ve just heard of, called “Girl Talk in Mudgee” has been created to provide a comfortable environment for women of Mudgee to meet each other, network, and form friendships or support groups for all aspects of our busy daily lives.

Whether you’ve lived here for decades, or you’ve just arrived in Mudgee to live, Girl Talk in Mudgee is a great way to take away the sometimes daunting task of making friends and meeting new people.

Set over a relaxing lunch at one of the many great venues around Mudgee, Girl Talk in Mudgee holds events throughout the region, and can be found on facebook where you can register to attend the next event to be held on the 8th of May at High Valley Wine & Cheese Co.

What we love so much about this initiative is that it was an idea though up by local ladies who just want to help Mudgee women mingle and identify with each other. As they say on their facebook page “It doesn’t matter if you are a domestic goddess, a harried mum or out in the work force, come along, meet, mingle and network and get to know more about Mudgee at the same time”.
