INXS is Coming to Mudgee!

With nearly 500 song titles to their name, you would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t at least heard a few of INXS’ biggest hits like Never Tear Us Apart or New Sensation. We suspect though that with a touring career spanning over 30 years, there are bound to be a few fans here in Mudgee that know many more of INXS’ songs!

As part of their 2012 Australian Coast to Coast Tour, INXS will be visiting Mudgee to perform at Parklands Resort on the 16th of June. The reason we mention this now is that tickets are on sale now and we wouldn’t want Mudgee’s biggest INXS fans missing out!

This is one of those great opportunities to see an iconic Australian band in the flesh, singing all of your favourites, and a great time to get a group of friends together for a fun night of music and entertainment.

Tickets are available on Ticketmaster for $65.95 per person, and attendees must be over 18 years of age. If you’d like to purchase your INXS tickets, click here, and don’t forget to share this info with your friends!

Gooree Cup & Mudgee Dragons Weekend

We want to make a weekend of the Gooree Cup coming up in early May 2012, combined with first Mudgee Dragons home game at Glen Willow Oval the day before. Now that’s what we call a weekend of fun and entertainment!

Saturday the 5th of May is the Mudgee Dragons’ first home game of the season, and with the new developments that have taken place at Glen Willow, there’s bound to be a bit of a crowd. For those that are coming in to support the opposition, and for locals as well, it’s a great opportunity to stay on for the Gooree Cup race day on Sunday the 6th of May.

As part of Racing NSW’s “Saddle Up Sundays” campaign, the Gooree Cup is featuring all the trimming and pre-event glamour, including cocktail party, equine art exhibition, high tea and fashion parade, tours of Gooree Park Stud & Winery (sponsors of the event) and VIP race day lunch.

As part of the weekend of sport, local businesses are encouraged to embrace the atmosphere by decorating offices and shops in racing and/or Dragons theme during the week leading up to the events.

We would love to see the community actively promote the weekend of the 5th and 6th of May, and encourage family and friends to come along to support our local Mudgee Dragons team, as well as local racing at the Mudgee Racecourse. We’re passionate about both sports and hope to see you there! Now is the time to start organising travel, accommodation and what you’re going to wear or decorate your business in!

Cruising for a Cause

Have you got a thing for your car? Do you like to cruise around just enjoying the open road? Do you want to help raise funds for cancer research? Do you enjoy the company of other car enthusiasts?

Coming up on the 10th of March 2012, Cudgegong Cruisers Inc. in conjunction with volunteers from the Mudgee & Districts Can Assist branch, are holding a cruising event called ‘Can Cruise’. The fundraising event is in its fourth year running, and is a great way to show off your mechanical pride and joy, meet some great new people, and see some amazing machines.

Commencing at the Mudgee Racecourse and travelling to Rylstone, Kandos and Lue before returning to Kandos, we’re told that it’s a sight to be seen (and heard)!

The best part about the event is that any registered vehicle can enter! Costs are listed below, and you can complete an entry form by clicking on the link at the end of this blog post. Entry fee includes lunch and entertainment, such as a “Show n Shine” in the morning, sack racing and tyre rolling competition during the lunch-break at Kandos, poker cards drawn throughout the day, and on the return to Mudgee Racecourse there’ll be a jumping castle for the kids and time to socialise with new and old friends. Trophies and prizes are also up for grabs!

So, fill out the entry form and be at the Mudgee Racecourse around 9:00am, or 8:00am if you’re having breakfast, bring the family and make a day of it!

Visit www.cudgegongcruisers.org.au for more information or www.canassist.com.au to find out more about the Can Assist network.

Good Old Aussie Home Entertaining

An oldie, but a goodie! Especially for this time of year, and with Australia Day coming up in a couple of weeks, barbecues and home entertaining are probably one of the biggest weekend activities around Mudgee!

So, from an earlier blog post, here are some great tips to help you enjoy entertaining in your home, even when you’re the hosts!

Firstly, the right type of house helps when you’re trying to fit a number of people into a limited space. Maximising space by moving clutter and unnecessary furniture out of the way helps not only to fit people in more comfortably, but may preserve your furniture from spills as well – bonus!

If you’re hosting a smaller gathering in your home, make sure you create an atmosphere that encourages everyone to have a good time… the last thing you want to hear are the crickets in the backyard!

Catering is one of those things that you either enjoy or you don’t, so if you’re not getting professionals in to cater, make sure you prepare as much as you can ahead of time so you can spend your time mingling and enjoying yourself with your friends, rather than being in the kitchen trying to keep up with hungry mouths.

The dreaded clean-up generally takes place the following day, but if you are able to, once everyone’s gone and assuming you have the presence of mind at the end of the night, clear away any food scraps and rubbish so not to attract possums or other unwanted post-party guests.

Happy home entertaining everyone! Remember, party responsibly, and of course have a good time! Let us know if any of the above tips helped you out!
