Good For Heart, Mind, Body & Soul

Sport is definitely great for the body and keeps the heart pumping, but it’s also great for the mind and soul.

Mudgee students were visited by touch football players from the Australian Trans- Tasman Test Series team, which got us thinking about how we can encourage people of Mudgee to get involved in local sporting teams.

We would really love to help promote local clubs and organisations that provide sporting facilities and competitions to Mudgee locals so we’ve put a list together below, but please feel free to add others in the comment section if we’ve missed any!

Gooree Cup & Mudgee Dragons Weekend

We want to make a weekend of the Gooree Cup coming up in early May 2012, combined with first Mudgee Dragons home game at Glen Willow Oval the day before. Now that’s what we call a weekend of fun and entertainment!

Saturday the 5th of May is the Mudgee Dragons’ first home game of the season, and with the new developments that have taken place at Glen Willow, there’s bound to be a bit of a crowd. For those that are coming in to support the opposition, and for locals as well, it’s a great opportunity to stay on for the Gooree Cup race day on Sunday the 6th of May.

As part of Racing NSW’s “Saddle Up Sundays” campaign, the Gooree Cup is featuring all the trimming and pre-event glamour, including cocktail party, equine art exhibition, high tea and fashion parade, tours of Gooree Park Stud & Winery (sponsors of the event) and VIP race day lunch.

As part of the weekend of sport, local businesses are encouraged to embrace the atmosphere by decorating offices and shops in racing and/or Dragons theme during the week leading up to the events.

We would love to see the community actively promote the weekend of the 5th and 6th of May, and encourage family and friends to come along to support our local Mudgee Dragons team, as well as local racing at the Mudgee Racecourse. We’re passionate about both sports and hope to see you there! Now is the time to start organising travel, accommodation and what you’re going to wear or decorate your business in!

Mudgee Rugby News – Grand Final for Mudgee Wombats, Hopefully Dragons too!

Mudgee Wombats have qualified for the ANFD Cup Northern Zone Grand Final for the 3rd straight year, which will be held at Jubilee Oval this weekend. Getting into the grand final was no mean feat either, with some nail biting moments keeping us all on the edge of our seats. You can read more about the preliminary final highlights here. It’s a great family day out, so if you’re up for a bit of competitiveness, exuberating fun and excitement, make sure you get to Jubilee Oval on Saturday for some great sporting entertainment.

In other Mudgee Rugby news, the Mudgee Dragons defeated the Bathurst Panthers on the weekend to secure their opportunity against the Lithgow Workies this weekend which will hopefully see them take a grand final birth against the reigning premiers the Orange Cyms on September 11th. Although the Dragons have played their last game at Jubilee Oval, the success of the club is expected to roar on when then make their move to Glen Willow Sporting Complex next year.

Best of luck to the Mudgee Wombats and the Mudgee Dragons in their respective games this weekend!

Go You Good Things!

Congratulations must go to both the first and reserve grade Dragons teams who are playing their grand finals at Wade Park, Orange this Sunday!

The Mudgee Dragons have everything to be excited about with both grades having good chances of taking their flags. No strangers to grand final pressure, I’m sure the guys will play hard and spend their last ounce of energy on the field while they try to achieve another premiership for the club.

The Dragon’s are moving their home ground to Glen Willow in 2011 which is being upgraded to provide stands and modern facilities for the club. Last Sundays win against the Orange Hawks was the last home game to be played at Jubilee Oval, we can’t wait to see the new facilities next year.

Good luck to all the Dragons on the Sunday, Mudgee are behind you!

Local Footy Teams Get Set for Finals!

Weekends in Mudgee are always awash with team colours and uniforms, and with finals either started or about to start, temperatures of players, coaches and supporters are certainly rising!

Our Mudgee Wombats won their major semi final against Coolah Roos in the local Rugby Union on Saturday, which I actually got time to get down and have a look at after the day’s open houses. I have to say the game was a very entertaining physical match up between the two teams who have had some fierce battles over the past 12 months; it was great to see a good crowd down there on what was a lovely day. The Mudgee Wombats’ win has set the scene for a home Grand Final which will take place in two weeks time.

Another local team, the Mudgee Dragons also scored a win on the weekend in the Rugby League, with a massive 62 point thrashing over the Bathurst Panthers. It put them close, but the Dragons sadly missed claiming the minor premiership by a mere 6 points! This means they will line up in a home semi final this weekend against Bathurst St Pats.

With both teams defending last years respective titles it would be great to see plenty of people getting down to support them in the coming weeks, so come on Mudgee locals, let’s get behind our local sporting teams as they get set for finals!
