Keep Australia Beautiful Week kicks off today to serve as a reminder about how important it is to preserve our beautiful country.
During Keep Australia Beautiful Week we’re all asked to take a look at our daily lives and ask ourselves what we can do to help reduce our litter and household waste and save our environment.
What many don’t realise is that the things we throw away today could end up polluting the environment for generations to come.
Sadly, Australians are one of the highest producers of waste in the world per capita, and every Australian throws away on average over one tonne of waste each year. Most of this waste ends up in landfills even though most of it can be recycled or reused in some way.
What’s worse is that a large number of rubbish (48 million litres each year) ends up being littered on the streets and roads, and makes its way into waterways and harms our plants and wildlife.
So it’s time we all start paying a bit more attention to our behaviours and dispose of things in the right way, whether it’s by recycling, composting, repurposing or simply putting rubbish in the bin.
Let’s all help to keep Mudgee and the rest of Australia beautiful.
