Mudgee Readers’ Festival 2012

“Where too many books are never enough”… the Mudgee Readers’ Festival is coming up on the 18th and 19th of August, and with a clear focus on what readers want, not writers, it’s a festival that Mudgee locals and visitors will surely get value from.

Over the last couple of years that the Mudgee Readers’ Festival has been held, from all reports there has been terrific support, with plenty of discussion and laughter amongst speakers and their audiences.

People of all ages are encouraged to take up reading as a pastime, even with technology these days you can still read digital novels and immerse yourself in a new world, after all, it is the National Year of Reading!

The presentations, panel discussions and literary lunches will be run by authors, talking to you about the books that you read and with children’s authors as well, there’ll be something to entertain all ages.

Don’t forget to take along all of your old and pre-loved books, as there’ll be a second hand book fair at the Readers’ Festival as well where you can buy and sell books of all kinds.

The official programme for the Mudgee Readers’ Festival will be announced on the 4th of July and you can find it at the Mudgee Readers’ Festival website here after that date. If you’d like to join the conversation about the festival, you can also visit their Facebook Page here.

Gulgong’s Henry Lawson Heritage Festival

It’s back again for another year, the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival in Gulgong, from Friday the 8th of June to Monday the 11th of June 2012. For those who haven’t been before, pop it in your diary because not only is a great family event, it also showcases much of the region and of course tells you lots about our pioneering forefathers’ lifestyles, including that of Henry Lawson himself.

The long weekend will give you and your family and friends the opportunity to take in everything that the festival has to offer, from exhibitions of art and photography, having your photo taken in heritage outfits, street markets, bush dancing and music, parades, poetry readings and of course the Gulgong Country Race Meet on Sunday afternoon.

As one of Australian history’s most famous poets, Gulgong is proud to have had Henry Lawson call it his home since being brought to the area as an infant. The Mudgee and Gulgong regions played a large part in influencing Henry Lawson’s writings, which is one of the reasons he’s celebrated in Gulgong to this day.

You can visit the Henry Lawson Society of NSW website to read more about the festival’s competitions and the legend of Henry Lawson himself, or download the full program (PDF) here. If you’ve got any questions about visiting Gulgong for the event, contact the Tourist Information Centre on 1800 816 304.

Update on Mudgee Relay for Life 2012

We’re coming a strong 8th out of 52 teams taking part in the Mudgee Relay For Life on May 12th 2012, but we’re not quite at our fundraising target yet, so we’re asking for support by the way of sharing this with your family and friends or kindly donating as much or as little as you can to our team’s fundraising efforts.

We have been very humbled by the kind contributions that not only have our local counterparts donated, but also our wider networks across much of the country. It means a lot to have the support of our networks of friends and family, and we thank you all very much for your generosity.

One of the great things about having such a wonderful community behind us is knowing that all the efforts we go to to raise funds, it is ultimately our beloved community that is helping the Cancer Council find ways to manage and research cancer and help cancer patients.

There would be few people in Mudgee who don’t know someone who has been affected by cancer of some type, so it’s something that we know is close to the Mudgee’s community’s heart. Together we can help kick cancer’s butt, so again, we thank everyone who’s shown their support thus far, and ask anyone who can, to share this post, or donate to our team!

To get involved or find out which teams are currently registered, visit the Mudgee Relay For Life page here or to help team “Professionals Real Estate Mudgee” achieve our goal of $5000, you can click here to donate or join our team. We’d love to have your support!

Girl Talk in Mudgee

Are you a female living or moving to Mudgee? Are you looking for ways to network and interact with other local ladies, to get to know women in the Mudgee community and above all, get out and see just how great Mudgee is with like-minded, motivated women?

A new initiative that we’ve just heard of, called “Girl Talk in Mudgee” has been created to provide a comfortable environment for women of Mudgee to meet each other, network, and form friendships or support groups for all aspects of our busy daily lives.

Whether you’ve lived here for decades, or you’ve just arrived in Mudgee to live, Girl Talk in Mudgee is a great way to take away the sometimes daunting task of making friends and meeting new people.

Set over a relaxing lunch at one of the many great venues around Mudgee, Girl Talk in Mudgee holds events throughout the region, and can be found on facebook where you can register to attend the next event to be held on the 8th of May at High Valley Wine & Cheese Co.

What we love so much about this initiative is that it was an idea though up by local ladies who just want to help Mudgee women mingle and identify with each other. As they say on their facebook page “It doesn’t matter if you are a domestic goddess, a harried mum or out in the work force, come along, meet, mingle and network and get to know more about Mudgee at the same time”.

INXS is Coming to Mudgee!

With nearly 500 song titles to their name, you would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t at least heard a few of INXS’ biggest hits like Never Tear Us Apart or New Sensation. We suspect though that with a touring career spanning over 30 years, there are bound to be a few fans here in Mudgee that know many more of INXS’ songs!

As part of their 2012 Australian Coast to Coast Tour, INXS will be visiting Mudgee to perform at Parklands Resort on the 16th of June. The reason we mention this now is that tickets are on sale now and we wouldn’t want Mudgee’s biggest INXS fans missing out!

This is one of those great opportunities to see an iconic Australian band in the flesh, singing all of your favourites, and a great time to get a group of friends together for a fun night of music and entertainment.

Tickets are available on Ticketmaster for $65.95 per person, and attendees must be over 18 years of age. If you’d like to purchase your INXS tickets, click here, and don’t forget to share this info with your friends!

Anzac Day in Mudgee 2012

Every year on April 25 we commemorate our ANZAC’s on Anzac Day, which for many people is one of the most important days on the national calendar. Most Australians will have been related to, or know someone who served in a World War or who currently serve in the Australian armed forces.

Anzac Day is a day that we all should pay our respects to the men and women who have fought and who still fight today to keep Australia a free and democratic country.

If you would like to show your Anzac spirit this year (2012), you can do so by attending one of Mudgee’s Anzac Day events:

Mudgee ANZAC Day Services 2012

ANZAC Day Dawn Service
6:00am at Robertson Park

ANZAC Day March
10:15am departing Club Mudgee, Mortimer Street
March travels along Mortimer Street, Church Street, Market Street to Robertson Park

Hargraves ANZAC Day March
8:15am departing from in front of Hargraves General Store
March travels down Hill End Road to Memorial.

If you’re not able to make a local service, you can pay respects and commemorate the ANZAC’s by taking a minute silence throughout the day, remembering the sacrifices that soldiers have made both on home soil and abroad, to keep Australia as the best country in the world to live.

Lest We Forget.
