The great Australian dream in Mudgee

We think it’s fair to say that a lot of Australians are property obsessed! People love to follow their local property markets and tune into reality television shows to take a glimpse inside homes around the country.

No matter where you go you’ll find people that love property, however the dream of owning a home is undoubtedly becoming an ever-increasing struggle in Australia, particularly for a lot of young homebuyers in some of our largest cities – namely Sydney and Melbourne.

But luckily not everywhere in Australia is faced with the same affordability issues as our big city counterparts and more and more people are looking elsewhere to make their property dreams a reality.

We are increasingly seeing people packing up and making a tree change to places like Mudgee where properties are still very affordable (Mudgee’s median house price is $372,500 according to CoreLogic RP Data) and there is a fantastic lifestyle on offer too.

Mudgee is definitely one region where the great Australian dream is still within most people’s grasp and as Sydney property prices get further and further out of reach, it’s likely we’ll see more people turn to hidden gems like Mudgee where they can make their property dreams a reality.

Tips for those thinking about making a tree-change to Mudgee this year:

  • Make sure you do your research: Before buying property anywhere you should get to know the local market conditions and the variances between properties. The more you know, the easier it will be to find a place that’s just right for you.
  • Spend some time here: There’s nothing like doing research on the ground. Spend a few weekends in Mudgee, visit open homes and get to know local agents so you can get a good feel for the property market and the area too.
  • Get the right help: Enlist the help of a buyer’s agent who knows the local area inside out and can help find the perfect property.
  • Consider investing before buying: If you’re not willing to take the plunge and move to Mudgee just yet then consider looking at your investment options.

If you’re thinking about moving to Mudgee then feel free to browse our properties for sale at professionalsmudgee.com.au or pop into our office at 79 Church Street. We’re happy to help in any way we can.

Australia Day Celebrations in the Mudgee region

Will you be celebrating all things Australian this Australia Day?

The Mudgee region will be celebrating Australia Day on Tuesday 26 January with a special event at Anzac Memorial Park in Gulgong from 8am until midday.

The Mudgee celebrations will be a day for recognising the outstanding achievements of those within our community, and it will include lots of fun activities too.

The day will kick off with a free BBQ breakfast and there will also be live music, kid’s activities and market stalls before the Official Australia Day

Ceremony. The Ceremony commences at 10am and will include the announcement of the 2016 Citizen of the Year.

Of course if you’d rather a sleep-in on Tuesday, then there will be plenty of other ways to celebrate, whether it’s a BBQ with mates, a picnic in Lawson park, or at a visit to a local winery, pub or café (just call ahead to make sure they’re open for the day).

But keep in mind that Australia Day is more than fun events and BBQs, and more than a public holiday.  It is a day when communities get the opportunity to come together and celebrate the uniqueness and the diversity of the country we love, and are so lucky to be a part of.

For more information about the local Australia Day ceremony and event, contact the Mid-Western Regional Council and if you know of any more local Australia Day events in Mudgee then feel free to share them on the I Love Mudgee Facebook page.

Who tops your list of great Australians?

Akubra HatWith Australia Day looming, and consequently the Australian of the Year awards, our Professionals Mudgee Real Estate team have been chatting about the most significant Australians.  It’s amazing how much diversity there is in one real estate office!

We’ve had sporting heroes, musicians, scientists, Nobel Prize winners, surgeons, artists, writers, actors, directors, media icons, entertainers, and even the odd politician on an assortment of lists.

According to Rankopedia, the top 10 Australians (as voted by the public) are:

  1. ACDC
  2. Heath Ledger
  3. Nicole Kidman
  4. Mel Gibson
  5. Kylie Minogue
  6. Sir Donald Bradman
  7. Cate Blanchett
  8. Paul Hogan
  9. Steve Irwin
  10. Ian Thorpe

If your list differs greatly from this, don’t worry… aside from one or two favourites, so does ours!  With so many great and inspiring Australians (past and present) to choose from, is it right that a band should top the list rather than an individual?  Perhaps many of those who voted on Rankopedia viewed ‘greatness’ as a measure of success rather than taking other traits into consideration.  This of course poses a question – What makes an Australian ‘great’?

According to GLO Australia, the top 20 inspirational Australians of the 21st Century include Jessica Watson, Black Caviar, Cadel Evans, Dr Christopher O’Brien, Peter Hughes, Jim Stynes, Caleb Neyenhuis, Kurt Fearnley, Ben Roberts-Smith, and Nick Vujicic.  While many of these names might not be as well known as those in the first list, they have all accomplished amazing things and have names well worth knowing.

With Australia Day approaching, our team at Professionals Mudgee Real Estate would like to encourage you all to take the time to form your own list. When you really think about it, the difficulty isn’t trying t fill spaces on the list, it’s trying to stop.
