The chilly winter weather has well and truly hit Mudgee and while most of us can snuggle up in our cosy homes with a heartwarming meal at night, there are some that don’t have that luxury.
To raise funds and awareness for those that have it tough in the community, Vincent de Paul Central West will be running the inaugural Mudgee Sleepout at St Matthew’s Catholic School on Friday, August 24.
Those participating in the sleepout will get a small taste of what it’s like to sleep rough for a night. It will be a “no-frills” event with participants given no more than a beanie, a sheet of cardboard and a cup of soup & bread roll before sleeping out on the floor of the school’s auditorium.
For those who are extra brave there is also the option of sleeping outside in the cold on the oval, you’ll just need to make sure to bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.
This is an event to help support vulnerable people in our community and experience what they do night after night. Those who want to join in on the event are encouraged to form a team of friends or work colleagues and dress-up in their “onesies” and come and support this very worthy cause.
In the last financial year, Vinnies Cudgegong Region provided over $120,000 in food parcels and vouchers, $110,000 in electricity vouchers, and $40,000 in other programs to people in need in the local community.
All proceeds from the sleepout event will be split across local Vinnies programs to provide social justice and advocacy programs to the needy in the region.
