Is a new home on your New Year resolution list?
If you’re looking to buy a home in 2018 then it’s time to get a head start now. The sooner you start doing things like getting your finances in order and researching the market, the better equipped you’ll be to jump in head first in January.
Cut back on festive expenses
Don’t forget about your financial goals over the silly season. With so many parties to go to and presents to buy it’s easy to whittle down your savings. Set yourself a budget and try to be conservative so that your finances don’t take too much of a hit.
It might be hard to cut back on some of the fun and festivities that take place at this time of year, but it will be well worth it if it helps you get a leg up to buying a new home.
Find a lender
Start shopping around for the best home loan deals. Talk to different banks and mortgage brokers to find out what they can do for you, and don’t be afraid to ask for better offers.
It’s well worth having pre-approval before you start your property search. Pre-approval will help speed up the buying process once you make an offer and it can also show sellers that you are prepared and ready to purchase right away.
Getting pre-approval is easy. You simply need to hand in many of the forms and information to your lender that you would need to provide when you apply for a loan anyway. It’s important to keep in mind however that pre-approval isn’t a guarantee that you will get a loan and is subject to a valuation of the property.
Start researching the market
The sooner you start getting to know the market you want to buy into the better. Even if you’re not ready to buy just yet it can be a good idea to start looking at property listings and heading to open homes so you get a good feel for what is out there and how much it is selling for.
Take your time with your property search and look at all of your options and soon you will find your dream home.
