What to get up to in the Mudgee region for the long weekend?

The June long weekend is almost here, giving locals and visitors to Mudgee a chance to get out and about and enjoy everything that this wonderful region has to offer.

There will be plenty to see and do over the weekend, including the famous Henry Lawson Heritage Festival in Gulgong as well as markets, parties and a whole lot more. 

Henry Lawson Heritage Festival 

Don’t miss out on this weekend’s biggest event – the Henry Lawson Heritage Festival. The old gold rush town of Gulgong will come alive for the event with everything from history and literary events to a pilgrimage drive, as well as food and wine and country racing.

Some of the event highlights will include a literary awards dinner and show, pilgrimage drive from Grenfell to Gulgong, heritage photos, pavement art, photo competition and exhibition, historic bus trip, food fair and wine tasting, Gulgong Gold Cup country race day and a poet’s or writer’s morning tea.

Head to the Mudgee Makers Market on Saturday morning to find a wide range of handcrafted food, produce and art from our region.

The Makers Markets is a fantastic place to find gourmet food and unique finds. The markets run from 8.30am until 12.30pm and are only held a few times a year so you won’t want to miss out.

Vineyard escapes 

Mudgee’s local wineries and restaurants will be worth a visit over the long weekend, especially as some will be holding special events. You can visit Gooree Park for a Winter Wagyu Lazy Lunch for just $15, or head to Short Sheep Micro-Winery on Friday night for an intimate guided wine tasting by candlelight. It will also be worth heading to Burrundulla Wines over the long weekend to catch a pop-up café by Rachael McCarthy.

Rent Party @ Kandos Museum

Kandos Museum is having a rent party on Saturday 10 June from 6pm. There will be plenty of delicious food to enjoy as well as wine from renowned Kandos-Rylstone producers, Naked Lady Wines and De Beaurepaire Wines. Great music will accompany the evening with local talent Pete Foerster and Andrew Ross providing a great blend of blue/soul/country to delight your ears.
