A few things to consider before moving to the country

Thinking of moving to a regional town but aren’t sure if it’s the right lifestyle for you?

We absolutely love Mudgee but we know that it can come as a culture shock for those who are used to the hustle and bustle of city living and sometimes the slower pace of life takes a little bit of getting used to.

Before packing the car and making the move to a regional area like Mudgee it’s a good idea to sit down and consider how you life might be different – even if it’s for the better!

You’ll need a car

Public transport isn’t as widely available as it is urban areas and many people will find it frustrating if they don’t own a car or even a bicycle. While having a car isn’t absolutely necessary, especially if you live close to town, it will make life a lot easier and will allow you to explore many of the wonderful attractions in the wider region.

Life is quieter

While there is plenty of festivals and events in the Mudgee region throughout the year, inner-city dwellers may notice the lack of nightlife and there might not be as many shops and take-away stores as you’re used to.

But many people enjoy the open spaces and peace and quiet in the Mudgee region and there is still plenty of cultural activities and things to see and do for those looking for a bit of excitement, not to mention all of the wonderful local food and wine produce to try.

Properties are bigger

Who doesn’t want to live in a beautiful acreage property with plenty of space for extra sheds, hobbies and whatever else you can dream of?

While having extra room is great, be mindful of the extra cost and effort involved in maintaining a larger property.

Maintenance for larger blocks can be expensive and is likely to take up a lot more of your free time than a small suburban block.

Property prices will be different

If you’ve started thinking that Sydney’s astronomical property prices are the norm you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the cost to get into the property market in Mudgee.

One of the big draw cards of regional living is affordability, with Mudgee’s median house price currently sitting at $377,000 according to CoreLogic data. This puts it well below the $million+ price tags found throughout Sydney.

There are plenty of property options available in Mudgee, from units and cute cottages to spacious rural retreats.

There’s a lot more to consider if you’re making the move from the city to the country but we find that for most people, once they make the move they never look back.

The best way to find out for yourself if Mudgee is for you is to spend a couple of weekends here and see if you enjoy the different pace of life.
