Mudgee is known to many Australians because of our beautiful wineries, so it’s great to see that six of our local wineries have received five star ratings in the James Halliday book, Australian Wine Companion for 2013.
The local wineries included in the book are Robert Stein Vineyard, Quilty Wines, Lowe Wines, Logan Wines and Huntington Estate who all received a five star rating in the book, and also Robert Oatley Vineyards who received a special five red stars.
The five red stars is an amazing achievement and it is the highest rating that is awarded, with only a small percent of wineries in the book receiving the honour. To receive the rating, a winery must have maintained five stars for 2 years and it must have at least two wines with a rating of 94 points.
Robert Oatley Vineyards has provided consistent quality over the last 3 years and it has eight wines with a rating of over 94 points, so it is highly deserving of the five red star rating.
Mudgee’s inclusion in the Australian Wine Companion is great news for our local wineries and for our local tourism industry.
Apparently a lot of wine connoisseurs in the country take the wine ratings in the guide very seriously and so it is very likely that Mudgee will be seeing even more visitors coming to the region to experience our beautiful wineries and to experience the wonders of Mudgee while they are here.
Congratulations to all of Mudgee’s wineries included in the James Halliday Australian Wine Companion for 2013, and if you don’t have a copy of the book you can still read all about wine and our local wineries at www.winecompanion.com.au.
