The Australian Red Cross is always looking for new donors to help stock blood supplies across the country, and with their “Donate for your State” campaign currently under way, we thought it would be great to get some of our blue-blooded Aussies here in Mudgee to take part!
With our NRL State of Origin stakes down 1-0, team NSW consists of tens if not hundreds of thousands of eligible participants who could make a real difference to people whose lives depend on blood donations from the Mudgee community.
Figures from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service show that each year more than 1.35 million blood, plasma and platelet donations are made across Australia. All of these donations help to save lives, with statistically one in three people needing blood transfusions during their lifetime, so it’s definitely important that people continue to donate.
If you haven’t donated blood before, and don’t know if you can, find out on the Donate Blood website because if you’re fit and healthy and aged between 16 and 70, you could be eligible to donate blood. There is a donation centre in Orange, or you an visit the mobile blood donor van which will be in Mudgee in late July.
Saturday July 27 2012 also marks the start of National Blood Donor Week, a week where we should all thank those who already donate blood and also help raise awareness about how important it is to find donors. Remember one blood donation can help save up to 3 lives, so why not find out more about donating blood to see if you can be a life-saver?
