We’re constantly talking with people who are upsizing or downsizing, and a common theme of our discussions comes down to storage space, so we thought we’d write a blog post about saving space in your house, and offer some tips that might help you between now and your next home.
It could be as minor as a few drawers that need cleaning out, or it could be as major as a whole room in the house storing all of that ‘stuff’ that just doesn’t have a purpose anymore, or that hasn’t been used in goodness knows how long.
Start small… clean out those drawers… throw away anything that you haven’t used in over 12 months, doesn’t work, is broken, or nobody wants.
Move up to a cupboard or two… firstly you need to allocate some decent time to do this. A few hours should do it for a normal sized cupboard. Pull everything out and place it out so you can see it all. As you start to pack it back into the cupboard, get a garbage bag for rubbish and one for the charity bin and start sorting.
As you move through the house, get the family involved. Having rewards for kids is a great way to add incentive to the chore.
It’s not uncommon for people to hold onto old furniture or clothes they intend to mend for years, and instead of getting these things fixed, more and more things just tend to get added to the junk pile. So for the things you still have to store, it’s time to source a good storage solution to meet your needs.
Hopefully now you can find some space for the things that you want to keep in your home and make life much more comfortable for yourself and your family.
