With the return of programs like “The Block” and “60 minute make over” airing on TV its inspired us to renovate or give our homes the facelift it needs. But not ALL renovations are good renovations so we have put together some hints to do it the right way.
Council approvals make sure you get it!
If you are making drastic changes to your property make sure you check whether you need council approval first. I most cases if it is changing the structure of your property you will need it – even if it is something minor its better to be safe than sorry.
Set a budget
This is really important; make sure you work towards a budget. Don’t spend more than you need to sometimes going for a mid range kitchen or bathroom can look just as good as high end.
Doing it all yourself
As much as you’re trying to keep to a budget its not always a good idea to do all of the renovations yourself, things like plumbing and electrical work can be dangerous needs to be done by a professional.
Choose a Style
Try to keep things simple; when choosing light fittings and room colours – make sure they compliment each other; you want to make the most of the space you are working with.
Ask for help
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, of you don’t know where to start or even if you need help picking colours or fixtures there are always professionals there to help you out.
Whether your renovations be big or small, complex or simple make sure you plan it out first and you won’t go wrong. Do you have any good renovating tips? Let us know!
