Have you heard of the Ulan Coal Mines that are about 40km from Mudgee? Well there are big things on the horizon for the coal site, which will mean good things for Mudgee and surrounding districts.
A company called Xstrata recently announced its plans to invest $1.2 billion to develop an underground thermal coal mine at the Ulan Mine site, to be called “Ulan West”. With existing infrastructure in place, it’s hoped that depending on all of the approvals for the development, the new mining site will begin construction before the end of this year, and be up and running by 2014.
For Mudgee, that means construction jobs, ongoing employment for the mine, business opportunities in Mudgee and of course need for accommodation, so investors and sellers should see an increase in demand when the final approvals are made for Ulan West’s development.
